OLD BOYS' DINNER
"There was only one 'ism' taught when I was at school," said Mr. W. Smith, proposing the toast of "The School" at the Christchurch Boys' High School Old Boys' annual dinner last night. "We never heard of Communism, Socialism, Nazism, or any of those—only Imperialism, and I think that if it had still been taught, nations would not have been overtaken by the fate they have met today."
Other toasts were "The First Fifteen" (Mr. L. B. Quartermain) and "Kindred Associations" (Mr. A. T. Donnelly).
Officers were elected as follows: — President, Mr. E. T. Norris; committee, Messrs. M. Burnett, A. K. Gray, H. J. Evans, E. Ullrick, E. J. Timings, and C. R. MacGibbon; secretary-treasurer, Mr. D. T. Barnett; hon. auditors, Messrs. L.. Fanning, A. E. Currie, and O. N. Gillespie. Messrs E. T. Norris, M. Burnett, and M. O. Barnett were elected life members.
