EFFECT OF WAR CONDITIONS
Last year only 2186 new passports were issued by the Department of Internal Affairs, compared with 5010 during the previous year, the annual report of the Department states. Renewals were granted to 390 passports, compared with 563 a . year earlier. "The war has restricted foreign travel and accounts for the decrease shown, the report states. On the outbreak of war regulations were issued requiring all persons over sixteen years of age to have a permit to leave New Zealand and approximately 11,000 of these were issued.
