HOUSE RENTS
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —With regard to the letters by "House Hunter" and "Another House Hunter," complaining of high rents, has not the Government already taken the action desired? Rent paid by the previous occupants is not the only basis used. Under the present legislation it is possible to have an assessment made by a housing inspector and the rent fixed at a reasonable flat rate, various factors being taken into consideration. I have seen actual specimens of such rates, and they are well below the "£1 or 30s per room" instanced by your correspondent, and a substantial reduction on the rent previously paid.—l am. etc.,
INTERESTED,
