PATRIOTIC BOARD

The appointment of Mr. Charles Todd, of Wellington, as a member of the National Patriotic Fund Board, was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) today. Mr. Todd is to fill the vacancy in the board's personnel caused by the death of Colonel J. J. Esson.

The Minister' said Mr. Todd had taken a deep personal and practical interest in patriotic work of -the Dominion and his services would be of value to the national body in the (discharge of its functions. Mr. Todd and the members of his family have made substantial contributions to the patriotic funds. These donations, together with several other substantial contributions at that time, were particularly helpful. They gave an impetus to the appeal for funds which since then has become so widely known and has gained widespread public support. Mr. Todd was also prominently associated with the campaign in business circles in Wellington recently in support of the Sick, Wounded, and Distress Appeal carried out with such splendid results by the Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society on behalf of the National Patriotic Fund Board.

He wi3s chairman of the Wellington Busine.j; Men's Committee, and on behalf of his firm, Todd Motors, Ltd., presented the motor-car which brought in £4341 15s as the result of an art union. Recently he was appointed chairman of the National Council for the Reclamation of Waste Material.

Mr. Todd is well known in Wellington. He was deputy chairman of directors of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition Company and in this capacity played a prominent part in various activities connected with this big venture.
