SAVINGS IN STAFF
OFFICE ARRANGEMENTS
Enlistments for overseas service on the part of officers in the Post and Telegraph Department have necessitated arrangements whereby sayings in staff may be effected,, these being in addition to the alterations in the clearance of mails, particulars of which ; ihave already been published. The use of-a night staff at the Wellington Ghief Post Office will be discontinued. This .staff, which numbered eight to ten, used to come on at 10 pjn. and deal w.ith mails, cleared up. to 1 ajn. In future, approximately 30 men will begin, work at 7 a.m. and .•work till 1 p.m. A further 30 will begin at 1' p.m., working till all mail has been dealt with, which is usually about 8 p.m. or 8.30 p.m. . ; Altogether, with the alteration in the .collecting of mails and in the closing times, it is expected to save at least 20 men at the Wellington Chief Post Office. Business firms are not expected to be seriously inconvenienced by the alterations .in the postal service, as no mails ■arrive so late that a reply will not catch, the next outward delivery the same day. Air mails will not be affected by the changes. ■/
