In a collision at Botany, Sydney, last week the Dominion-bred colt by Theio from Princess Ball was killed and the trainer S. Nicholls was injured. Nicholls was riding the colt, who had only recently arrived from New Zealand, when the youngster ■ took fright and jumped to the centre of the road, crashing into the front of a large lorry. Nicholls was thrown heavily on to the radiator, and the. heat inflicted burns on his leg and arms. He was taken to hospital, where he was also treated for scalp wounds. . The Princess Ball colt was one of the lots purchased at the January sales by Mr. C. Wheeler, of Adelaide, and the price paid for him was 320 guineas. He was from the same family as La Moderne, Gay Son, and Cimabue. He was broken in at The Grange Stud, Westmere, and was sent over to Australia with a number of other yearlings last month.
