DE LUXE THEATRE,
Tomorrow's Programme.
Judith Barrett is the star of "Women Without Names," the Paramount drama which opens tomorrow at the De Luxe Theatre, with Ellen Drew and Robert Paige in co-featured roles. Miss Barrett is cast in the picture as a gangster's girl friend, a tough little lady who resents the fact that the gangster still seems to have some interest in his ex-wife, Ellen Drew. Her resentment comes td a head when she is thrown into prison with Miss Drew, after Drew and Paige have been convicted of a murder actually committed by the gangster. She shows her feelings by indulging in a hair-pulling match with Miss Drew, but Miss Barrett's biggest chance to demonstrate her histrionic ability comes near the end of the picture when she feels the pangs of conscience and wants to confess that the gangster committed the murder, only to find that the officials will not listen to her confession. A comedy to suit all tastes, "Cheer, Boys, Cheer," starring Edmund Gwenn and Nova Pilbeam, will be the associate film. The story opens with Ironsides Brewery out to secure control of its smaller rival, the Greenleaf concern, which enjoys the twin advantages of an excellent bitter and a useful chain of lucrative hotels. Ironside's son, John, gets a job with Greenleaf's as publicity manager, planning to ruin the firm wtih extravagant bills, but he falls in love with Greenleaf's daughter and decides to forsake his nefarious scheme. Ironsides look like winning the battle for a time, but in a thrilling sequence Cupid takes the honours. The funniest sequence takes place when Jimmy ODea, as the Greenleaf's chief brewer, dopes the Ironsides vat with a concoction that causes all who drink it to burst into copious tears. Young Ironsides's romance with Greneleaf's daughter produces some witty wisecracks, while additional comedy comes from two brewers who are perpetually in hot water.
