RAIDS ON GIBRALTAR

LONDON, July 9

A message from La Linea (Spain) says that anti-aircraft guns at Gibraltar and on the surrounding ships drove off air raiders three times yesterday. A plane, which is believed to have been French, was shot down in the straits. Workmen are busy completing trenches, breastworks, and air-raid shelters round the rock.

The Rome newspaper "La Tribuna" publishes a message from Algiers stating that it is believed that French naval units sank four convoyed British ships off Casablanca (Morocco), and that a group of French submarines sank a British cruiser.
