PETROL FOR THE RACES

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —This is certainly a crazy world to live in—evidently a person cannot or is not expected to believe what he hears; because I am fully under the impression that the- motorists of New Zealand have been asked to conserve petrol by not using their cars unnecessarily. If this* is really so, would you please tell me why our benevolent Government was running large buses from Wellington to Trentham, for the pleasure of racegoers, when the train, which does not use petrol, does the same trip? , There must have been several hundreds of gallons wasted on pleasure trips during race days; this is certainly not very comforting to a man who depends for his living on

using his car and finds his petrol allowance has been cut down; so that it is likely he may lose his job because he has no petrol for business purposes, -I am, etc..
