INVESTMENTS UP

BIG CROWD AT TRENTHAM

Favoured with a fine day following so much recent rain, the Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting was opened before a large attendance at Trentham yesterday, and there was still a further improvement in the totalisator figures. The investments were £60,632 10s (£26,032 win, £34,600 10s place), compared with £57,341 (£25,137 10s win, £32,203 10s place) on the corresponding day last year, an increase of £3291 10s.

The course was well saturated by the continued rain of the previous week and the going was the heaviest in July for some years. However, the track stood up to the racing very satisfactorily and it was not as bad at the last race as many expected to see it.
