NAZI PLANES DOWN
AIR RAIDS ON BRITAIN
(Received July 8, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 7. The destruction of at least three ! German raiders today brings the total brought down since yesterday morning to five and the total since June 18 to forty. Two others were possibly destroyed over the Channel. The Germans crossed the coast at j several points today. One plane [dropped ten bombs on the south coast where one person was killed and three seriously injured and nine buildings demolished and several others seriously damaged. Between 20 and 30 bombs fell in the south-west but did ! little damage. A man was killed by shrapnel. Most of the German bombs fell in the water. The raiders were driven off after encountering a terrific anti-aircraft barrage. One Messerschmitt was seen toppling towards the sea after a fight with Spitfires.
The Air Ministry states that the fighter patrol shot down an enemy bomber off the south coast early this morning.
