Last month America acclaimed the first launching of a capital ship in nineteen years, when the 35,000----ton battleship Washington was launched. The great battleship, which by the time she is completed, will have cost eighty million dollars, is seen gliding down Way No. 3 at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The Washington will carry nine 16in guns.
Vice-Admiral Sir Geoffrey Blake, appointed a Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty. From 1929 to 1932 he was in command of*the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy.
