MASTERTON, July 7. Walrarapa and Hawke's Bay met on Saturday on a heavy ground. Play was mostly confined to the forwards, though the Bay backs were prominent at times in rushes which the state of the ground and the ball often rendered fruitless. Walrarapa were the first to score, Fitzgerald kicking a penalty. Then Smith scored an unconverted try for Wairarapa. Just on the call of half-time Lyttle scored for Bay. The kick was successful. Wairarapa had the better of play in the first half. In the second half Reid opened the scoring with a try for Bay. Thomas converted. Brown scored an unconverted try for Wairarapa, and from a passing rush Fitzgerald also scored, | O'Callaghan converting, making the final score Wairarapa 14, Hawke"s Bay 10,
