Mr. F. W. Mothes, M.B.E. who for some years has been managing director of the Goldberg Advertising Agency, Sydney and Melbourne, has resigned that position in order to return to New Zealand to offer his sar'vices for war work in the Dominion.. Mr. Mothes • enlisted in the New -Zealand PJxpeditionary Force Main Body lin August, 1914. and saw four years j and a half of war service in Gallipoli, England, and France. In 1924 he was appointed director of the company's London office, and in 1931 he returned to New Zealand to become managing j director of the New Zealand company. lln 1936 ha went to Sydney as deputy !to the governing director, Mr. Frank ! Goldberg, during the latter's absence ! abroad. His latest appointment as | managing director to the Melbourne 'company occurred in 1937. | Lieutenant-Colonel J. W. Craven, ' M.C., has relinquished his duties as j Medical Superintendent of the Auckland Hospital and has left Auckland to rejoin the Royal Army Medical Corps. The Rev. W. Carmichael, of Fortrose, Southland, is to receive a call to succeed the Rev. J. H. Lilburn at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Hamilton East. The Waikato Presbytery will deal with the call at a special meeting on July 30. Mention was made in Daventry broadcasts during the weekend that three holders of the Victoria Cross presented to the King included "a lieu-tenant-colonel commanding a New Zea- | land battalion." The inference is, of course, to Lieutenant-Colonel L. M. Andrew, V.C., N.Z.S.C., of Wellington, j who is officer commanding the 21st (Wellington) Battalion. Up to the time the Second Echelon went into j camp Lieutenant-Colonel Andrew was lon the staff of the Central Military DisI trict Headquarters, Buckle Street. [ Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn, vicar of Greymouth, will be acting vicar of the Miramar-Seatoun parish until the vicar, the Rev. C. E. Willis, who has been called up for service as a chaplain to the forces, returns. Mr. E. P. Wills, diocesan secretary and registrar of the Diocese of Christchurch, has -been appointed provincial secretary in succession to the Yen. Archdeacon W. J. Simkin, now Bishop of Auckland. Mr. Wills was formerly an assistant master at Wanganui Collegiate School. Lieutenant J. G. Hilliard, R.N.V.R. (New Zealand), has been-promoted to the rank of lieutenant-commander. Mr. R. T. Reid, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, arrived by the Limited express today and is staying at the Hotel St. George. Mr. Edward Heinemann, of M. W. Heinemann, Ltd., who left Wellington for Sydney some months ago, has enlisted with the Australian Forces and. is now in training at Greta, 100 miles from Sydney.
