A "HARD-LUCK" HORSE
Because of leg trouble Koyal Star II was considered to be near a hopeless proposition for racing when he was offered for sale with the late Mr. W. Higgins's horses at Trentham last July, and, while Beaulivre made 2900 guineas at the sale, the English gelding was knocked down to Mr. J. B. Fletcher, of Hastings, for the modest sUm of 25 guineas. So far Royal Star II has stood up to 24 races since Mr. Fletcher bought him and he has built up the "hard-luck" record of the season. > Several races have just slipped from Royal Star ll's grasp, and his only win this season was the Raumai Handicap, 7 furlongs, at Ashhurst. However^ he has been five times second, four times third, and five times fourth, and in stakes he has probably paid his way with £350. Among his minor placings was a second in the Egmont Cup, Ned Cutfle cutting him out in the last stride. It has been the same story in several of his other races, and in still others he has had most unlucky passages. He is engaged next in the Whyte Handicap on Tuesday and success for him would be popular even if it brought a substantial dividend.
