MEMBERS ON SERVICE

LEAVE FROM PARLIAMENT •

j The Speaker of the House of Representatives (the Hon. W. E. Barnard) is to investigate Standing Orders with a view to simplifying arrangements { for granting leave of absence to mem-! bers of Parliament with the forces. So far such members have been granted leave from time to time. This morning when leave of absence was asked for Lieutenant A. G. Hultquist (Government, Bay of Plenty) the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates (National, Kaipara) rose and buggested that members with the forces should be granted leave without the necessity for repeated requests in the House. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P Fraser) said that the suggestion was a good one and asked the Speaker if he would go into the question and see what could be done. N "I will be very pleased to do so," j Mr. Speaker replied.
