HAWKE'S BAY HUNT

TOMORROW'S FORM

A FINAL TRENTHAM LINE

There are only two meetings in the Dominion at the weekend, and because Wellington follows so closely upon their heels they have very few Trentham first-day acceptors among their fields. Of main interest to North Islanders is the Hawke's Bay Hunt Club's Annual Meeting at Hastings tomorrow, where the betting will be under the single-pool system. Recent gallops on the Hastings track indicate that the going there is not yet as heavy as it often becomes at this time of the year, but it will nevertheless probably he well on the soft side. The feature item of the day's card is the Harold Russell Memorial Steeplechase, formerly the Hawke's Bay Hunt Cup Steeplechase, and. there is not a deal of recent form in the field. Glenvane (who is also in at Trent^am) and Royal Toast (last year's winner) have had two races recently, and they may be the likeliest to improve into winners. Tigreterre has been disappointing since his surprise win in the Napier Steeplechase. Acron is probably best of the others. The class of the field is shown by the weights, only Glenvane being above the minimum. • Among horses engaged in other events whose showing will be watched because they are acceptors for. Trentham on Tuesday are Soho, Heroic Maid, Laughing Song, Lacan, and Haile Selassie. The foDowing horses promise to be well' supported:— Otane Hack-and Hunters' Hurdles. —Soho, Baron Bold. Okawa Maiden. —Gold Court, Cherry Hunter. Tikokino Handicap.—Heroic Maid, Yogi. Harold Russell Memorial Steeples.— Royal Toast, Glenvane. Riverslea Hack Handicap.—Gay Laura, Kinkajou.
