NO CLOSE-UPS.

Lovely Loretta Young is just plain Loretta Young in "The Doctor Takes a Wife," her new Columbia comedy. A departure in photographing glamorous feminine stars was Director Alexander Hall's plan for this production, which also features Ray Milland and Gail Patrick. Loretta, playing her first full-length comedy role, received none of the long close-ups which heretofore have emphasised her beauty. From opening titles to fade-outs she was photographed strictly "as is." Hall's reason for the innovation is simple.

"Everybody knows Miss Young is beautiful," he said, "so we don't have to prove it all' over again." Instead, the picture's emphasis was on comedy and natural action, with the star being photographed like any other member of the cast.
