STOCK SALES

PRICES AT JOHNSONVILLE

Wright, Stepihenson, and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams Ltd- report on the Johnsonville sale held on July 2 as follows:-We. offered a large yarding of all classes of cattle. The bullocks penned -comprised chiefly medium heavyweight cattle with a few pens of light and unfinished cattle. AH classes met with a good sale, prices showing little alteration to those ruling last week. No heavyweight female cattle came forward, the yarding comprising light and medium weight sorts. Prime quality cows and heifers met with keen competition, prices being slightly, firmer to those ruling last week, while plain cattle met with no alteration. A good sale resulted for prime quality runners and vealers; plain calves were easier to the extent of 5s a head. Only a few* pens of prime heavyweight wethers came forward, the balance of the,yarding consisting of light to mediumweight sheep. Extra prime heavyweight sheep met with good competition; prices being Is a head firmer than last week's, while medium and lightweight wethers met with no alteration. The yarding of ewes was of exceptionally good quality. Extra prime heavyweight ewes sold readily with prices fully Is a head up on those ruling last week. Prices for light and mediumweight ewes were I6d a head easier. Taking into account the quality, the lambs met with a good demand, prices at last week's rate being fully maintained. We quote:— Prime extra heavy bullocks, single, £15, £13 18s; prime heavy bullocks, £13 15s, £13 ss; heavy bullocks, £13, £12 10s; light and unfinished bullocks, £11 17s 6d, £11 2s; extra.prime heavy cbws and heifers, £9, £8 10s; prime heavy cows and heifers, £8 7s 6d. £7 14s; cows and heifers, £7 ss, £6 ss; cows, ex dairy, £5 ss, £3 12s 6d; runners, heavy £5 ss, £4 15s, medium, £4, £3; vealers, £2 12s 6d, 13s; small calves, 12s 6d, ss; prime extra heavy wether. 345. 31s 9d; prime heavy wethers, 31s 4d, 295; medium wethers, 28s 4d, 25s 8d; prime extra heavy ewes, 26s 9d, 245; prime, heavy ewes, 245, 21s; medium ewes, 20s 3d, 17s; heavy lambs, 26s 3d, 22s 6d; medium lambs, 21s 6d, 19s; light lambs, 17s 6d, 15s 4d.
