LIBYA OPERATIONS

ITALIAN MORALE LOW

DOMINATION BY BRITISH

CONSTANT PATROLS

(Received June 22; 2.30 p.m.) ! LONDON, June 21. A correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" on the Libyan frontier says that the British forces, although they do not occupy any part of Libya, dominate 3500 square miles of territory by constant patrols from the Mediterranean to below Jarabub. Events have shown that the Italian morale is low. Two Libyan deserters said that the entire garrison of one post deserted after the post had been bombed. The Italians are repeatedly attempting to trap the British by using the white flag. * There have been frequent examples of the success of British armoured columns against numerically superior enemy forces. One young subaltern ]ed an armoured car attack against 12 tanks and 20 lorries, and though outnumbered by■ six to one held up the enemy until British tank reinforcements arrived. Seven enemy tanks and seven lorries were destroyed./ The Italian tanks were riddled with bullets revealing weakness in their-armour.
