ITALIAN COMMUNIQUE

(Received June 22, 9 a.m.) LONDON, June 21. An Italian war communique states:— "Through the night of June 20 naval bases at Bizerta and Malta were again subjected to intensive aerial bombardment. Reconnaissance aviation over aerial and naval bases in. the Mediterranean continued. In Northern Africa operations were under way on the eastern border. Although the operations were purely a matter of tactics, the enemy losses totalled ten aeroplanes and about 40 armoured cars. Last night a violent bombardment was carried out on aerial bases,at Mersa Matruh, causing heavy damage and big fires. In East Africa, during an unsuccessful raid on our aerial bases at Aivello, two more British planes were shot down. The enemy has considerably lessened his air raids over the Italian mainland, and only one bomb fell, near Imperia, in open country."
