THEFT OF TWO SHILLINGS
For the theft of 2s, the property of the Wellington City Corporation tramway department, Lewis Millner, aged 57, an employee of the department, was placed on probation for 12 months by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today.
JVEillner had been employed for a number of years as conductors' representative in the checking of money 'handed in by the conductors, said De-tective-Sergeant P. Doyle. On June 5 he was seen taking a coin from some money on a desk. When the money was counted it was 2s short. Evidence was given along these lines.
Millner, who pleaded not guilty, and was represented by Mr. A. J. Mazengarb, said he had been 30 years in the employment of the tramway department, first as a conductor and then as conductors' representative. He denied taking the money.
The Magistrate ordered the refund of the 2s.
