THE TERRITORIALS
OFFICERS & N.C.O.'S
TO BE CALLED UP ON JULY 1
The Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) announced last night that officers and non-commissioned officers of most uniis of the New Zealand Territorial Forces are to begin a course of instruction on July I.' Those concerned belong to the artillery, engineers, corps of signals, and infantry, other than the Fortress Battalion.
The Minister said that the officers and non-commissioned officers of the Fortress Battalion were already in camp undergoing instruction. Other ranks of this unit would commence three months' training from July 1. The men of the other units would be trained at the conclusion of the course for officers and non-commissioned officers, which would last a month or two months.'
"We want to get officers and noncommissioned officers trained promptly," the Minister continued. "Without that being done, it is impossible to have an efficient Territorial Force." Mr. Jones explained that in cases of hardship, either the men or their employers had the right of appeal. This right was being reserved to them.
