SINKING OF NIAGARA

PREPARATION OF REPORT

AUCKLAND, This Day,

A preliminary inquiry into the loss pi the Niagara was held today by the Superintendent of Mercantile Marine in Auckland, Captain H. A. Dillner. Evidence was given by the master, Captain Martin, and by various officers and members of the crew. Captain Dillner's report will be forwarded to the secretary of the Marine Department in Wellington.

Proceedings were not open to the Press, and no statement was issued at the conclusion of the inquiry. It is not anticipated that there will be a Magisterial inquiry.
