NUMEROUS DIRECT HITS

Aircraft on the ground were de-stroj-TQd,. petrol tanks set alight, and hangars wrecked in the course of day- | light Wtacks on two> enemy aerodromes in Stance yesterday by medium bombcbs of the R.A.F.. At ]^oven, where 25 or more enemy aircraft were-dispersed round the aero-, dromeji the attackers scored numerous direct jhits *. a hangars and tarmac and
scattered the aircraft. Several aircraft burst into flames.
In the late evening another strong force of medium bombers attacked an enemy-occupied aerodrome near Amiens. One of the three main hangars and a large aircraft standing nearby were set alight in the first sortie, which was quickly followed by a still heavier attack, in which 12 aircraft on the ground were destroyed by highexplosive bombs. Many others were damaged. Hits were ako scored on the two remaining hangars. A sudden outbreak of fire which spread rapidly among the buildings suggested that a petrol dump had been struck and the fuel set alight. All the British aircraft returned safely to their bases.
