PETONE'S SHARE,
The feature of this week's collection for the Petone Bed Cross Appeal is the Gear Meat Company's contribution of £500. Another substantial sum is £170 from the raffle, a satisfactory result. The dance held by the Hutt Valley Ropu Maori Girls' Club, which was a most enjoyable function, yielded four guineas.
Contributions still continue to come in, and the treasurer, Mr. H. Firth, Box 1, Petone, will be pleased to acknowledge further contributions. The Hutt Valley Technical College students will hold a copper trail on Friday, June 28, and Saturday morning June 29, in Jackson Street, Petone.
The total acknowledged on the Petone list is £1625 8s lid.
On Tuesday next, at 7.45 p.m., there will be played at the Hutt Recreation Ground a Rugby League football match between Petone and St. George, two popular Wellington teams, whose play should attract a large attendance. The meeting of two such teams should be a spectacular and exciting exhibition of the code. All the proceeds are to go to the St. John Ambulance and Red Cross Fund.
