REPRESENTATION IN U.S.A.

Gratification at the announcement that the Government was considering the appointment of a representative of the Dominion in Washington was expressed by Mr. C. Carr (Government, Timaru). He considered it would be very desirable if the Government did establish closer diplomatic relationship with the United States of America. "Some people are saying that after the war we will be a colony of. the United States," said Mr. Carr. "I do not think that will happen, but worse things could happen. In collaboration with Australia we should strengthen our relationships with the Powers round the Pacific. I don't think we should let our foreign diplomacy be settled for us on the other side of the world."
