PERSONAL NOTES

The Countess of Orford, who is at present in England, has turned her home, Rosemoor, Torrington, Devon, into a convalescent home for soldiers, and is running it herself.

Mrs. C. E. Critchley, wife of the Australian Trade Commissioner, has returned to Wellington from a visit to Australia.

Miss H. D. Montague, Auckland, has arrived in Wellington, accompanied by Mrs. H. de la Perrelle, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland.

Mrs. M. Dwyer, Wellington, who has been visiting Melbourne and Sydney, returned home yesterday. Miss Peggy Dwyer, who accompanied her mother, will remain in Melbourne.

Mrs. G. Hookey, Wellington, returned yesterday after spending twelve months' holiday in England and the Continent.

Miss L. Speedy, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. C. T. Richardson, Lansdowne, Masterton.

Mrs. Harold Brookman, who visited Auckland, has returned to Wellington.

Major Florence Birks, who was in charge of the Toowoomba ftorps of the Salvation Army, has arrived from Australia to become principal of the Training Garrison, Aro Street. She was accompanied by Major Bertha Smith, formerly Younj, People's Divisional Secretary at Newcastle, who will be her assistant. Both left New Zealand about three years ago and were met on their return yesterday by a large number of members of the Salvation Army, who gave them a hearty welcome.

Miss M. Reidy has retired from the position of matron of the Kawhia Hospital, after 29 years' service. Mrs. R. C. McMillan, Sydney, has been appointed to take her place.

Mrs. R. W. Haddow, Patea, who arrived at Wellington on Sunday, will leave in a day or two for Taihape.

Mrs. Climpson, of the Salvation Army, has died as the result of enemy action in France. She was engaged in providing refreshments for the troops, states an exchange.

Mrs. Madden and Miss Burling, Masterton, are visitors to Wellington.
