WIDENING INTEREST

REPERTORY THEATRE

. Interest in the various activities of the society has been keen throughout the year, states the annual report of the Wellington Repertory Theatre, in reviewing the fourteenth year of the society's existence, and evidence has not been lacking that its presentation of plays is proving of interest to. a widening section of the public. The readiness, indeed, the eagerness on the part of so many members to lend valuable help in ways too numerous to mention is a most satisfying and encouraging element in the daily round of the society's work. It is recognised that the range of plays which can be cast for production will narrow progressively as the war proceeds, but a determined effort will be made to maintain a programme consistent with war-imposed obligations. A concert party of members of the society has already given numerous entertainments at military camps and a complete organisation for ..such' activities has been set up. Membership has been maintained at the fixed limit, 950. Seven plays were presented during the year. The report adds that the accounts, for the year reflect increasing costs. Economies in various directions have been effected in order to ensure that the society's financial stability will not be impaired.
