SOUTH AMERICAN WOOL TRADE

No wool has been shipped from South America to Germany this season, but significant increases occurred in^ the quantities exported to Italy, Holland, and Scandinavian countries.

From October 1 to February 29, Argentine and Uruguay exported 29,425 bales to Holland and Scandinavia, compared with 8080 bales for'the corresponding period of the preceding season, the South American bale weighing about 9001b. Shipments to Italy were 13,952 bales, an increase of 3078 bales.

The invasion of Holland, Denmark, Norway : and Belgium by Germany now prevents supplies filtering through those countries to Germany, but she probably captured fair quantities of wool in Belgium and Holland. Japan purchased larger South American supplies, but the United States has been the most extensive buyer, 111,068 bales being exported to that country, compared with 42,663 bales a year before; Great Britain and France have bought limited quantities, the latter obtaining most of her requirements from the British Empire. ■■ ' .
