R.A.F. TAKES HEAVY TOLL
BOMBERS AND FIGHTERS BUSY

LONDON, May 26. It is announced officially that the R.A.F. carried out successful, bombing attacks over Belgium, northern France, and western Germany yesterday and last night. Two fighter squadrons shot down at least eight enemy fighters off the French coast. An Air Ministry announcement states: "We shot down 20 German planes yesterday. Four of our fighters were lost. "Today we destroyed or seriously damaged 40 German planes. Several of our fighters have not returned. Four of our fighters which were reported missing on May 23 have since returned. "Our reconnaissance planes found oil tanks, at Rotterdam still burning this morning and took the opportunity to bomb several more, which were set on fire."
A German communique states: "Our air force attacked Zeebrugge and Dunkirk, and also Ostend, where gunpowder and marine stores were set on fire, A transport was seriously damaged, and four merchantmen and one warship were hit off Calais on May 25. v A large warship and a cruiser wefe set on fire in Narvik area."
