"NO MORE SLACKNESS"

PRESS COMMENTS

WHAT NATION HAS BEEN WAITING FOR

LONDON, May 22. Press comment on the Emergency Powers Act is as follows;—

The "Daily Telegraph." describes the Act as "Britain's characteristic, reply to Hitler's lightning bid for mastery."

The Labour "Daily Herrld" writes: "We accept the new law. We salute the intelligence of the statesmen who have introduced it. Now all are one. The new Act is not, in itself, enough to win the war, yet it shows a realism, energy, and boldness in our leaders without which we cannot hope for victory." ' ■• Th,e "Daily Express" says characteristically: "Hitler started this war eight years ago. We started today. This is the morning the nation has been waiting for ever since Mr. Churchill made his appeal four months . ago.".

"No more slackness, no. more shillyshally, no more half-measures," says the "Daily Mail." "This is the kind of tonic the nation expects."
