TRAPPED A THIEF
NIGHT VIGIL REWARDED

The story of how Ernest Clifford Wadsworth, managing director of E. C. and E. M. Wadsworth, Ltd., Takaka, solved the mystery of missing goods was told in the Takaka Magistrate's Court today, when Robert Darling Welsh, aged 32, married, a carrier, pleaded guilty to four charges of theft, one of breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime, and 21 charges of breaking and entering. The charges involved an amount of about £400.
Wadsworth said he waited on his firm's premises all night and had a rifle with him. At about 6 a.m. he heard someone getting in through a window. After that person was in witness switched on the light aid demanded of the man that he put his hands up. He took the man to the Takaka police station. It was stated that the offences extended over a period of four years. Considerable stolen property was found in the accused's house.
The accused was committed to the Supreme Court, Wellington, for sentence.
