FEWER ENTRIES

Entries for the 1940 Chatham Cup competition have, been received by.the New Zealand Football Association as follows:— Auckland.—Abels, Comrades, Thistle, Ponsonby, Metro-College, V.M.C.A.,' Mount Albert. South Auckland.—Hamilton Wanderers. Rotowaro, Glen Massey. Westland.—Runanga. Buller. —Thistle, Ngakawau. Canterbury.—St. Albans, Technical, Western Thistle. Otago.—Northern, Mosgiel, Caverham. { These entries were placed before last | night's meeting of the council of the New Zealand Football Association by the secretary, Mr. Alf. Williams, who said that there would be six or seven Wellington entries, making the total 26 or 27, compared with 30 last year. The chairman, Mr. Frank Campbell, presided, and there were also present Messrs. W. L. Wilson, H. H. A. Renai, E. Hollis, J. Y. Walls, W. B. Hicks, F. Sanders, J. M. Oilier, W. G. Bryce, B. Martin. J. H. Dick, W. J. I. Vaney, and the secretary. In reply to a question from the Wellington Association, the council decided that anyone placed on the "black list" of unfinancial players shall be treated as an unregistered player and any club, including his own, playing such a man before his name is removed from the list shall be guilty of an offence.
