POLITICAL DEBATES

BROADCASTING FROM

THE HOUSE

PRIME MINISTER'S VIEW

"The question of broadcasting of all debates in the House, including those during which New Zealand's war effort would be under close discussion and analysis, does constitute a difficulty, because of the risk of information useful to the enemy being broadcast beyond these shores," said the Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) in an interview today, when the matter was brought to his notice.

He described the position as summed up in "The Post" yesterday as being fairly stated.

Mr. Fraser added that he had no doubt that the common sense of Parliament would overcome the difficulty. "The broadcasting of Parliament has been most popular over the whole Dominion," he said, "and it would constitute a real hardship if it were terminated or even suspended. I believe that arrangements can be made that will be both satisfactory and safe."
