ATHLETICS CLOSE CALL

■ Early in the game between Athletic ; and , University at Kelburn it looked as if University were going to have' it all their own way, but Athletic managed to win.

The University forwards made the pace early in the game, until Badland .tools the ball well downfleld. After a penalty by Rice, University attacked again via the forwards, and bright loose work, combined with sound back play,, soon netted them two converted tries. Cooney and Gandar were the scorers, and Kissel converted. :.

Athletic Mien seemed to warm up, and play moved down to the University line. It stayed on that side of half-way- until half-time. Stoll and Badland scored, and lUce converted a try, putting Athletic just in the lead. Play slowed up in the second hulf, but Athletic still liad a slight edge. The only score was an unconverted try by Pearson. The game ended with the score, Athletic li, University 10.
