CARILLON RECITAL
A recital, by automatic player, on the National War Memorial Carillon, Buckle Street, will be given tomorrow afternoon. Commencing at 3 o'clock the following records will be played:— (1) Changes on eight bells; (2) "Come All'Ye Faithful";. (3) "Annie Laurie" and "Killarney"; (4) "The» Oak and the Ash"; (5) "Bluebells of Scotland," "Men of Harlech," and "Vicar of Bray"; (6) "Nearer My God to Thee"; (7) "Londonderry Air"; (8) "The Harp That Once"; (9) "Bells of St. Mary's"; (10) "Oh God Our Help"; (11) "God Defend New Zealand"; (12) The National Anthem.
A fully representative gathering of citizens met in the Christchurch City Council Chambers recently to honour the retiring Town Clerk of Christchurch, Mr. J. S. Neville, all speakers paying tribute to his long services for the city. Mr. F. E. Graham, who presided, presented Mr. Neville with a cheque. Other speakers were Archbishop West-Watson, Bishop Brodle, Dr. J. Guthrie, the Mayor, Mr. R. M. Macfarlane, M.P., and Mr. W. R. Carey. Of many apologies received one was from the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan), 9 former Mayor of the city.
