Special forecast for Wellington:—
Moderate to fresh north-westerly winds.
Weather fair and rather mild,
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for light to moderate and variable winds in Westland and over the northern half of the North Island. Elsewhere moderate to fresh winds from some westerly quarter may be expected. In the western and southern districts of the South Island the weather will be unsettled with some scattered rain, but elsewhere it willbe fair to fine with rather milder temperatures.
An intense anticyclone still remains stationary over the New Zealand area, but by this morning pressure had fallen in the south owing to the approach of a weak disturbance from across the southern Tasman Sea. Winds over the North Island both yesterday and this morning remained light to moderate in force and variable in direction. Northerlies predominated in the South Island yesterday, freshening last night in the far south and reaching gale force this morning in a few exposed positions. There have still been a few isolated showers between Gisborne and East Cape, 26 points of rain being recorded at the latter station, but elsewhere fine and settled weather has continued. In the far south, however, it began to cloud over last night and some scattered rain was falling this morning in South Westland, Puysegur Point having recorded 11 points up to 9 a.m.
Auckland's weather yesterday was fine and sunny, the maximum and minimum temperatures being 63.2 and 45.7 degrees. There has been but little wind there, and the weather this morning was continuing fine and clear.
Wellington enjoyed 9.3 hours of bright sunshine yesterday, with maximum and minimum temperatures of 58.8 and 42 degrees respectively. It was mostly calm yesterday, but a moderate northerly wind was blowing this morning, the weather still being fine.
Christchurch had light and variable winds both yesterday and this morning, and the weather there, too, has been fine and sunny. The maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday were 51 and 34 degrees, and there was a frost of three degrees last night. It was still fine this morning.
