GAOL FOR THEFT
"The accused has a bad list, and it is quite evident that he 'shepherded* the complainant for the purpose of robbing- him," said Detective-Sergeant W. McLennan in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, in describing the circumstances of a charge of theft. of; blank cheques and petrol coupons, brought against Edgar, Lawrence Gigg, a labourer, aged 28. Gigg was convicted by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., and sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. Mr. McLennan said that tha complainant had been drinking with Gigg, and when he was-.under the influence of liquor the accused'had followed him up the street. The articles taken were later found in Gigg's possession.
In recognition of the good worll done by the 500 boys of Rongotai College in transferring books from tha old library to the new building .the City Council recently agreed to giva each boy a subscriber's ticket for ong year. Last night the same recognition was given boys of the senior art class of the Wellington Technical CoL lege for their part in display work'in the show cases at the main entrancf and in the lobbies of the new library.
