SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
LACK OF SUPPORT
"If we do not substantially increase our subscribing membership in the near future, the question of dissolution will have to be seriously considered, as the society's accounts would seem to indicate that the public does not place a value upon the work of the orchestra sufficient to enable it to continue."
The above paragraph in the annual report of the Wellington Symphony Orchestra, read in conjunction with the figures of the balance-sheet, indicate that at the annual meeting, which is to be held -on April 29, there will be questions of great importance to discuss. Although many economies were effected last year, there was still a substantial deficit on the year's working. Excess of expenditure over income was just over £50.
The executive appeals to members to enlist further subscribing members and so enable the orchestra to continue its valuable contribution to the cause of music in New Zealand.
