ASSOCIATION CODE

CANTERBURY MATCH

KING'S BIRTHDAY FIXTURE

. Wellington's first interprovincial Association football match this season will probably be, as in past years, the King's Birthday holiday fixture against Canterbury at Wellington, on Monday, June 3.

At last night's meeting of the [management committee of the Wellingtorr Football Association, the chairman (Mr. J. Meltzer) said that he had discussed the subject of a representative game with Mr. R. B. Bunt, secretary of the Canterbury Football Association, when he was in Wellington recently. Mr. Bunt had promised that although Canterbury would have a team playing Otago on the King's Birthday holiday, it would be able to send a really firstclass side to Wellington, In return, Canterbury would like to have a Wellington team in Christchurch .as soon as possible after their visit north, the suggested date being two Saturdays after the King's Birthday. . -. Mr. A. J. Costelloe said that Auckland would be a great draw in Wellington, but Mr. C. Ballard pointed out that Canterbury had always-put orra good show in Wellington, .and tne chairman said that . Wellington and Canterbury had created a Precedent by playing on the King's Birthday holiday, and this year at any rate Wellington could hardly withdraw. „ A welcome -was extended to^ Mr. Cutler, the new representative of tne primary schools. ~,,„„ Seeking a reduction of capitation fees, a deputation from the Inter-house Association waited upon the committee. • Its spokesmen said that the fee of £5 5s a t^am was too nigh, and because of it some teams were unable to enter the competition. Only nine entries had been received. this year, as against twelve teams playing last year The W.F.A. secretary explained that the association paid in ground fees 15s each time any team played. That was 30s a match and, in a season it mounted up. ■ . ~'■,»_. There was no suggestion, said Mr. Kean, of the W.F.A. making a profit from the Inter-house Association, and he gave an assurance that the committee would do all it could to help the inter-house movement; . 4 A coaching committee .was appointed, consisting of Messrs. Gates, Ballard, B. A. Mabin, Cutler, A. Lindsay, and the coach (Mr. J.«-R. Sheffield).

The transfer was approved of R. E, Miles from Stop Out to Hospital. ■ It was decided to start all competitions on Saturday week, April 27, if grounds are available. Besides Mr. Meltzer there were present at the meeting Messrs. J. J. Kean, A. J. Costelloe, E. J. Gates, J. Houston, R. Bold, J. H. Janes, F. Cutler, C. Ballard, H. Spolsky, and the secretary. (Mr. W. J. Arcus). ,
