DOMINION ELECTION
NEW PRESIDENT UNOPPOSED
NOMINEES FOR OTHER SEATS
One result of the closing of nominations for office-bearers of the New Zealand Rugby Union is that the presidency goes unopposed to Mr. L. V. Carmine, of South Auckland, who is nominated by the Auckland, King Country, and Wanganui Unions. The new president will succeed Mr. M. McKenzie, of Marlborough, when the election of officers takes place at the annual meeting of delegates at the Centennial Exhibition Assembly Hall on May 2. Mr. Carmine has been associated with Rugby in various parts of New Zealand, and at one time he was a member of the New Zealand
selection committee. Prior to transferring to South Auckland he was a leading official of the King Country Rugby Union.
For other positions on the New Zealand Rugby Union there are many I nominees. Two vice-presidents are required and there are eight candidates. The three seats for North Island councillors are to be contested by six nominees, but so far as the South Island I places are concerned the *• number reI quired is exceeded by one, and this | I also applies in the case of the execu- i tive of seven members. All sitting ! members, except the retiring president j (Mr. M. McKenzie) and LieutenantColonel T. J.: King (a member of the i executive, who is now with. the j N.Z.E.F. in Egypt), are again seeking office. A proposal is to be placed before the annual meeting that provision be made for the immediate past president to have a seat on the council. THE NOMINATIONS. The nominations, with a nominating union given in each case, are:—; President: —L. V. Carmine (Auckland). Vice-pr.esidents (two required).— Drs. W. A. Bowie (Poverty Bay) and W. S. Seed (Canterbury), A. A. Baker (Auckland), J. N. Millard (Wellington), W. A. Craddock (Buller), W. C. Hannah (Horowhenua), L. J. Brake (North Auckland), and G. J. Jeune (Bay of Plenty). North Island Councillors (three required).—A. St. C. Belcher (Waikato), G. A. Maddison (Hawke's Bay), Dr. G. J. Adams (Wanganui).- the Hon. J. McLeod (Taranaki), T. A. Fletcher (East Coast), and F. E. Sutherland (Auckland). South Island Councillors (three required)—J. K. Moloney. (Canterbury), A A. Adams (West Coast), L. R. Lopdell (Southland), and D. M. Spedding (Otago). : Executive, also holding seats on the council (seven required).—S. S. Dean (Southland), J. Prendeville (Wellington) J. G. Roache (Auckland), A. McDonald (Otago), A. C. Kltto (North Auckland), J. H. Parker (Canterbury), Captain C. L. Mullany (King Country), and T. A. Fletcher (East Coast). The list of nominations now goes to the various Rugby Unions for their information prior to the voting at the annual meeting.
