JUST VACATION"
> LOUIS BEATS PAYCHEK
END IN SECOND ROUND
NEW YORK, March 29. The world champion, Joe Louis, beat Johnny Paychek by a technical knock-out in the second round of a heavyweight boxing contest at Madison Square Garden before a crowd of 20,000. Louis weighed in at 14st 4ilb) and Paychek at 13st s£lb.
The crowd booed the hollow challenge, which lasted 3min 44sec. Louis dropped Paychek three limes in the first round, twice with, rights and once with a double-hander. In the second round Louis stalked the retreating challenger, landed a left, then, smashed a long and terrific right to the chin, lifting Paychek into the air.l He collapsed flat on his back in a corner. The referee stopped counting at four and awarded the decision to Louis.
Sports writers agree that Louis has regained his "killer form." They suggest Paychek was scared, and say he landed only two blows. Paychek said, "I remembered nothing after the first right." Louis said, "It was just a vacation." " •
