PARIS, March 31.

Mobile guns of heavy calibre were prominent in violent artillery duels in the Vosges and east of the Saar, the tactics both of the French and the Germans being to move /their guns quietly to favourable positions, launch a fierce but brief attack, and then hastily withdraw them before the enemy is able to fix the position of the guns.

The Germans attempted a number of minor infantry raids, but withdrew with losses. '

A number of British militiamen.were engaged in night patrols in no man's land. ..-•;■■■■ ■

■ Two attacks against French outposts were repulsed and Germans were Iclled or taken prisoner. The German news agency claims that one German patrol captured six prisoners and that another captured a machine-gun in heavy fighting in which the enemy lost ten killed and a number of wounded, the German losses being slight.
