PENSIONER'S OFFER
Referring to some of the letters which have been written to him since the appeal for financial volunteers, the
Minister of Finance (the >Hon. W. Nash) stated last night that he desired ' i to pay a special tribute" to "Old Bill," who, giving neither name nor address, denied the Government the opportu- ■ nity to thank him. The letter reads as follows:— . \ "Please find enclosed the sum of; £5 as a small help towards the war fund from an old age pensioner who will endeavour to give at least one shilling in the pound while the war lasts. May - * I proffer io you and all your colleagues in the Cabinet my deepest sympathyvin ' the anxious time yoA* are experiencing in your leader's illness, which seems to be approaching the end of this mortal life and the place prepared for ' him, furnished with the love and prayers of many grateful hearts who / have benefited from his kind services to the poor and needy." "No words of mine," said Mr. Nash, ' "can bring a greater revelation of th« spirit in the mind of the writer than the words written in that letter."
