Auckland. —Bright cricket with good scores characterised the first day's play in the final series of the "Auckland Cricket Association's championships. Two centuries were scored. H. T. Pearson {Middlemore) made 116, and A. V. Wiles (Ponsonby-Balmoral) 110 not out. Details:—Middlemore 41T for nine (H. T. Pearson 116, N. McMahon 81, J. A. It. Blandford 69, CM. Smith 74; D. Dunedin. —The Dunedin cricket season ended on Saturday. The grade premiership for 1939-40 was won by Grange Club from Carlsbrook A. Matches were stopped early by steady rain. Grange 288, beat Carisbrook A 143 (11. Cameron 54; Lemin four for 48), and 35 for none, on the first innings, in the final. Kaikoral 04, escaped with a draw against Dunedin IG7 for one (Macassey not out 77). University 215 for flve (Kennie. not gut 65, Baker not out 49) recovered well to beat Old Boys 172, on the first innings. Carisbrook B 105 and 122 (Silver six for 44) beat Albion 73 and 83 fur one, on the first innings.
