BEAU VITE TO RUN
MANAWATU MEETING
FORM FOR MAIN HANDICAPS
Though fields were much reduced at the acceptance, there is still a qualitycard for the opening day of the Manawatu Racing Club's Autumn Meeting at Awapuni on Thursday, and the-rac-irig should attract a lot of interest. Beau Vite has deterred most of his opposition in the Awapuni Gold Cup, but his presence alone, as it did at Trentham, will prove as big a dr,aw as a numerous" field, and probably a bigger. In this contest the Beau Pere colt will face' Old Bill at 151b better terms than under the handicap conditions of the Wellington Centennial Cup. The main handicap event of the day will be the King George Memorial Handicap, run over H miles. It was a Trentham affair last year, with the two first placings going to Galteemore and Siegmund, with Dainty Sue, who shortly afterwards transferred .to Trentham, third. Galteemore and Siegmund are again engaged, and the centre also has Globe Trotter in the field. • '. Winning form over Easter is not strongly represented, -, the, only two victors from last weekend being Lady Furst and Galteemore, but Siegmund and Classform were winners, shortly before, and Brazil and Dynasty ■ succeeded among the hacks. The favourite will probably be Lady Furst, who was easily victorious at Wairarapa in something like her best form. Galteemore and the unlucky Classform are fit opponents, and the best of the improvers' may be Globe Trotter, who won the Wairarapa Cup at the New Year with 31b more than he has • on Thursday. The winning form over Easter has dropped out of the J. M. Johnston Memorial Handicap. The best of those surviving at the acceptance appears to be Rakahanga, a previous winner on the course and second to Spanish Lad. at Riccarton last Tuesday, which was a most promising performance. Sleeveless is the improver among the others, with Lexden,- who beat good horses at Te Aroha last month, one always liaole to succeed in a field such as this. Russian Ballet and Red Cat, who are from the same stable, will be the better for their racing at Feilding, but they would istill need to have benefited a deal to succeed here. The acceptance for the Cloverlea Nursery Handicap, usually won by a good "two-year-old, is most satisfactory. Among those in the field are Fhaleron, Cetewayo, Ringcraft, Khurja, and ■ Courting, who are still engaged in the Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes on the second day. Cetewayo will probably be made a firm favourite again, and he has the chance of showing how wrong was his final day's form at Trentham. Among those who will test him are Phaleron, Air Flight, Kentucky, .Ringcraft, Stencil, Triple Crown, .Khurja, and Potautau. Kentucky, now that he has at last got on the winning list, may be the toughest to bowl, as he is not far short of the top classic standard and he has been perhaps the unluckiest juvenile racing this season.
