GIFTS AND FUNCTIONS
MEMBERS OF FORCES
REQUIREMENTS EXPLAINED
Misunderstandings have arisen over the requirements covering presentations and functions lor members of the armed forces, especially in the smaller districts, and today Mr. E. M. Bardsley, the hon. secretary of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council, made a statement on the subject on behalf of that organisation. Mr. Bardsley pointed out that money may be collected without restriction to make a presentation to.a member of the armed forces from fellow-members of a club, society, or other institution, or from his fellow-employers or employees. Funds for the purpose of making a district presentation from residents may be raised only by and with the authority of the Mayor of the borough or the chairman of a local authority. Before a public function or entertainment in honour of any member of the forces is held the* promoters must be approved by the chairman of the provincial patriotic council or the chairman of the committee in the zone in which the member of the forces lives. A charge may be made for admisison to the function or entertainm_nt subject to its approval from the same source. A detailed statement of receipts and expenditure in respect to the function or entertainment must be submitted to the provincial patriotic council or controlling committee within seven days and any balance must be held and disposed of as directed by the provincial council or controlling committee.
