ENTERTAINMENT FOR

SOLDIERS

NELSON, March 27

The Nelson men of the. Second Echelon have been home for their leave and a very gay scene was presented on Tuesday evening at the Velma Hall, when the women's committee of the Territorial Association gave a dance for the men and their friends. The hall was gaily decorated with flags and coloured lights, and dancing went 'on into the small hours of the morning. The men have, been given useful gifts by the Nelson Patriotic Committee, and the Women's National Reserve are undertaking to send the Nelson Force equipped with games for the voyage. I Faster Festivities. , Perfect weather prevailed for the holidays and Nelson was crowded with visitors. The usual bowling tournament was held and all rinks were crowded each day. There were also big entries for the golf tournament, and in spite of very, fast greens. the standard of play was excellent. The championship was won by Mr. K. Jones, a local player, and such a splendid exhibition of golf has seldom been seen in a final. There were many onlookers; and the prizes were presented by the wife of the president, Mrs. H. C. Cock. Congratulations. A very cheery sherry party was given by Dr. and Mrs. R. A. Lucas in honour of Mr. Pat Sladden and his fiancee, Miss Nancy Trimnell, Welling-' ton, who are to be married shortly. Some of the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Mills, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Hodgson, Mr. and Mrs. R. Duncan, Mrs. Handley (Wanganui), Mr. and Mrs. E. Coote, Mr. and Mrs. N. Rawson, Mr. and Mrs. J. Newman and Mr. and Mrs. H. Pitts Brown. Bridge. An enjoyable party was given by the Misses Hayes one evening -last week. Some of those . present were Miss yon Dadelszen (Wellington), Mrs. E. Leggatt, Mrs. Caselberg, Mrs". N. Rawson (Pahiatua), Miss L. Lucas, [ Miss Easterfield, and Mrs. H. V. Searle. Other hosts recently have been Dr. and Mrs. Low, Mr. and Mrs. Harley, Major and Mrs. Lorimer, Mrs. R. H. Davies, Mr. and Mrs. Leggatt, and Mr. and Mrs. J. Newman.
