SCHOLARSHIP WINNER

Miss Dorothy Downing has been awarded the 1939 New Zealand scholarship for study at the Royal College of Music, London. This scholarship entitles the winner to two years' free tuition, at the -college in London, and need not be .taken advantage of until better - war conditions. Miss Downing 'was recommended by Dr. J. F. Staton [on the L.R.S.M. examination last year, and later played for Dr. H. C. Colles,

a member of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. In the [grade VIII she gained distinction, silver medal,, and free entry for licentiate, distinction being achieved in harmony also. - "

In the Trinity College Empire Overseas Scholarship! ,1?34; Miss Downing was very highly '' commended, . Mr. Andersen Tyrer being the examiner. She has also passed part of the examinations for the Mus.Bac. degree, arid intends completing it in the near future. Miss Downing has been studying with Miss Valeric ,C6rliss for the past two years, and also, studied with Mrs. E. Mackay for a number of years.
